EFCC Sensitizes ICRC on Security

As the nation grapple with terrorism and violent crimes, staff of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, ICRC, have been advised to be vigilant and security conscious at all times. The advice was the high point of presentations at a security awareness lecture organised for the Commission and its staff by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

 

The programme which took place on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the ICRC Conference Room, Area 11, Abuja, dwelt on the security risks that organisations and their employees are daily exposed to and measures to overcome such risks. 
 
Osita Nwajah, EFCC’s Deputy Director, Public Affairs, said the programme was organised to offer security tips for corporate and private individuals in a bid to raising the awareness of Nigerians on security matters and also to curb the commission of economic and financial crimes in the society.
 
Speaking on “Cyber Security”, Wilson Uwujaren, Head, Media and Publicity, EFCC, said, cyber crime is a new order of threat that corporate organizations and individuals often ignore at their own peril.
 
He identified Identity fraud and theft of information as two key cyber threats.
 
According to Uwujaren, “your identity is very important at the individual and corporate level .When you lose your identity, you lose your integrity; when somebody steals your identity he compromises your personal integrity”.
 
Mr. Akinleye Olateju, Head, Anti Bomb Squad, EFCC, in his presentation on “Home Made Bomb” or “Improvised Explosive Device, IED” advised participants to be security conscious and proactive in reporting any strange movements or objects around them to security agents.
 
He said, “IED are not dropped from heaven or dropped from anywhere, they are carried by human beings. Be familiar with the environment, if you see any changes in your environment raise alarm because that alarm can save lots of lives”.
 
In his presentation, Alhassan Gambo, Unit Commander of the EFCC Police Mobile Unit, stated that security of lives and properties is primarily the role of government but exigencies of the moment recommends that people be conscious of their personal security.
 
According to Gambo, terrorism has become a franchise for every sort of crimes in the society. He encouraged participants to be weary of their environment and learn to avoid disclosing too much information about themselves on the social media.
 
In his remark, Aminu Dikko, Director General, ICRC who was represented by Director, Contract Compliance Department, Mr. Mike Ohiani appreciated the EFCC for partnering with his agency saying, “the relationship will be nurtured to be of mutual benefit to both organizations”.
