The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has received commendation from the National Assembly for the performance of its 2013 budget. Members of the House of Representatives Committee on Drugs, Narcotics and Financial Crimes gave the commendation Wednesday during the defense of the 2014 budget proposal by the agency.

Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde who presented a proposal of N10, 245,369,170.00 as approved by the Budget office against the N21,058,864,600.20 proposed by the EFCC, disclosed that the Commission recorded 99 percent performance In its 2013 budget. The feat was applauded by members of the Committee, with other agencies of government being asked to emulate the Commission.
 Chairman of the Committee, Hon Jagaba Adams Jagaba urged Lamorde, to remain fair and unbiased in the discharge of his duties to the nation. “Don’t allow yourself to be used for political vendetta, be guided by God. If you are guided by God you won’t have any problem,” he said.
Jagaba like his senate counterpart, Victor Lar also commended the Commission for the 117 convictions it secured in 2013 and urged it not to rest on its laurels. “I say well done for the successes recorded last year,” he said. Jagaba and members of the Committee however expressed worry over the state of the Commission’s headquarter building under construction against the background of the N1.3billion provided for capital expenditure in 2014 by the budget office.  According to them, speedy completion of the Commission’s head office complex will enhance the operation of the EFCC. 
Lamorde thanked the committee for their concern while pointing out that the early completion of the building will save for the Commission, the resources currently being spent on rented apartments. “I appreciate the concern which honourable members have shown concerning the head office building.  Today we are in seven locations in Abuja and in each of these locations, we provide generators, securities and others,” Lamorde said.
