The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Thursday March 6, 2014 arraigned Patrick Joseph Osobase and his company, Eventica Nigeria Limited, before Justice Othman Musa of the FCT High Court, Apo, Abuja on one count charge of criminal breach of trust to the tune of N28 million.
The accused is said to have failed to remit the said sum to the coffers of the Federal Government as proceeds accruing to it from the country’s fiftieth anniversary celebration held in 2010 through the office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation.
The charge reads, “ that you Patrick Joseph Osobase and Eventica Nigeria Limited on or about the 26th of May, 2011 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory being agents of the Federal Government of Nigeria and in such capacity entrusted with the sum of N28,697,750.00 (Twenty Eight Million, Six Hundred and Ninety Seven Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifty Naira) committed criminal breach of trust in respect of the said sum and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 315 of the Penal Code”.
Osobase pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Counsel to the accused, Morris Asielue asked the court to grant bail to the accused. Prosecution counsel, Cosmos Ugwu responded that he had just been served with the bail application and so need time to study it and respond.
Justice Musa adjourned the case to March 10, 2014 for hearing on the bail application while ordering that the accused be remanded in EFCC custody.
