Justice I.N Buba of the Federal High Court, Asaba on April 19, 2013 convicted and sentenced one Efe Asakpa to 6 months in prison for conspiracy and illegal dealing in Petroleum Product.
Ashakpa was arraigned on March 20, 2011 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on a 2- count charge bordering on conspiracy and illegal dealing in petroleum product. He was found guilty on both counts and convicted accordingly.
Justice Buba sentenced the accused to three months imprisonment on each of the 2-count charge with an option of thirty thousand naira fine each. The sentence is however to run concurrently with effect from April 19, 2013.
The court also ordered that Asakpa forfeits the bus (with registration number :XN512 PHC) containing forty-one (41) 50 litres jerry cans filled with Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) to the Federal Government.
Asakpa was arrested sometimes in October, 2009 by men of the Joint Task Force, (JTF) Operation Restore Hope at Otu-jeremi, Warri, Delta State and handed over to the EFCC for further investigation and prosecution.
