Gombe Village Head Arraigned for N4m Fraud

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday April 19, 2013 arraigned the duo of Maikudi Jauro Bappah and Adamu Jauro Bello, ward and village head respectively of Shongom, Gombe before Justice Babatunde Quadri of the Federal High Court Gombe, on a 2-count charge bordering on conspiracy to obtain money by false pretence.

The accused persons in November, 2010 allegedly obtained the sum of N4,000,000 from one Alhaji Adamu Usman Degri and family to purchase a piece of land at Tumfure near NNPC depot, Gombe which they never did. The offence is contrary to section 1(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under section 1 sub section 3 of the same Act.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge, prompting the prosecution counsel, Abubakar Aliyu to ask the court for a date for trial and remand the accused in prison custody.

Justice Qaudri adjourned the case to Friday 26th April, 2013 for hearing, while the accused persons were remanded in prison custody.
