Nigerian Youths Urged to Join Fight Against Corruption

The Commandant of the EFCC Academy, Mr. Ayo Olowonihi has called on Nigerian youths to join the EFCC in fighting economic and financial crimes.

He made the appeal Wednesday February 13, 2013 when students of Adamawa State University visited the Academy.

The Commandant who was represented by the Head Legal Unit, Mr. Bala Sanga, told the students that EFCC was established in recognition of some defects in the law enforcement structure in Nigeria especially as it concerns economic and financial crimes.

He noted that the EFCC has the mandate to prevent, investigate and prosecute economic and financial crimes cases including money laundering; adding that the key legislations used by the EFCC in its war against corruption include the EFCC Act, Money Laundering Act, the Advance Fee Fraud Act , Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act, among others.

Sanga described the Academy as the brain box of the Commission, saddled with the onerous responsibility of training and retraining officers of the agency and other stakeholders.

He highlighted lack of funds and slow judicial process as the major challenges confronting the EFCC even as he stressed that Nigeria as a country has all the resources it takes to curb corruption.

In his contribution, the Head of Advance Fee Fraud Unit, Mr Akanninyene Ezima cautioned the student on the dangers of living a life of crime. He advised them to be outstanding and loyal citizens of the country by living a crime-free life.

The students were taken round the various units of the commission.
