Money Laundering: Court Adjourns Mompha’s Trial Till Dec 19

Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court Sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, adjourned till December 19, 2023 further hearing in the alleged N6bn fraud trial involving Ismaila Mustapha, also known as Mompha (now at large).
Mompha alongside his company, Ismalob Global Investment Limited, was arraigned by the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on January 12, 2022 on eight-count charges bordering on conspiracy to launder funds obtained through unlawful activity; retention of proceeds of criminal conduct; laundering of funds obtained through unlawful activity; failure to disclose assets and property; possession of documents containing false pretence and use of property derived from unlawful act.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has reviewed its guidelines on arrest, bail and processing of suspects.
The review, which is premised on the need to adhere to the rule of law and international best practices in the treatment of suspects, was rolled out on Monday, October 31, 2023 across all its Commands.

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has charged youths across the country to collectively fight corruption and all forms of economic and financial crimes in order to accelerate growth in the economy
Olukoyode gave the charge on October 26, 2023 when undergraduates of Economics Department of University of Abuja, visited the Corporate Headquarters of the Commission, Jabi, Abuja on a study tour.

Justice A.A Isiaka of the Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kaduna, Kaduna State, has convicted and sentenced Destiny Maikarfi (a.k.a TudTech) to two years imprisonment for internet fraud.
He was jailed on Monday, October 30, 2023, after pleading guilty to one- count charge bordering on cybercrime.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Monday, October 30, 2023, adjourned till November 13, 2023 the trial of Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola( a.k.a) Naira Marley, for alleged internet fraud, owing to the failure of the Police to produce him in court for continuation of his trial.
Naira Marley is standing trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on 11-count charges bordering on conspiracy and credit card fraud.
