Mrs. Farida Waziri, succeeded Nuhu Ribadu as the Executive Chairperson of the Commission in May 2008. She was born on July 7, 1949 and raised in Gboko, Benue State. She obtained a Degree in Law from the University of Lagos and obtained a Master’s Degree in Law from the Lagos State University. In 1996, Mrs. Waziri obtained a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan. Waziri enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force in 1965 and rose to the position of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG). She was appointed by President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua as EFCC Chairman in January 2008.Ibrahim Lamorde who was holding fort, handed over to Waziri on June 6, 2008 following her clearance and confirmation by the Senate in May 2008. One of the landmark achievement of Waziri led EFCC was the conviction on October 9, 2010, of Cecilia Ibru, former CEO of defunct Oceanic Bank, who was sentenced to six months in prison for fraud and ordered to hand over $1.2bn (£786m) in cash and assets. Ibru had pleaded guilty to three of 25 counts of fraud and mismanagement. She is one of a large number of executives held in connection with the near-collapse of nine banks in 2009. Mrs. Waziri was later replaced by President Goodluck Jonathan on November 23, 2011.
