The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC Abuja Zonal Command today, February 2, 2023, re-arraigned one Abimbola Omoniwa and his company, Templecom Global Limited, before Justice Rosemary I. Kanyip of the FCT High Court, Life Camp, Abuja on one count amended charge bordering on criminal conversion.
The charge reads, “that you, Abimbola Omoniwa ‘M’ being the Director of Templcom Global Limited and Templecom Global Limited sometime in 2019 in Abuja within the Judicial Division of this Honourable Court while being entrusted with property to wit: the sum of Three Million, Seven Hundred and Forty Four Thousand Naira (N3,744,400) only by one Emenike Chimene Eleonu through your Guaranty Trust Bank Account Number 0179160795 for the purchase of Ten Thousand Four Hundred United States Dollars ($10,400) dishonestly converted the said sum to your use and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 311 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 532 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (Abuja) 1990 and punishable under Section 312 of the same Act.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Following his plea, counsel to the EFCC requested a date for commencement of trial and that the defendant be remanded in the Correctional Centre. However defence counsel, Fatima A. Shehu asked the court to grant bail to the defendant on the terms of an earlier bail offered him by the court.
Justice Kanyip granted the defendant bail in the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira with two sureties who must be Civil Servants not less than GL14 and reside in Abuja.
The defendant is also to deposit his passport with the court registrar.
The matter is adjourned till March 23, 2023 for commencement of trial.
