Justice Mohammed Mohammed of the Sokoto State High Court has convicted and sentenced Anas Bello Tangaza to one year imprisonment for criminal breach of trust and cheating.
He was jailed on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 after pleading guilty to one-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust, upon his arraignment by the Sokoto Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The one count charge reads: “That you Anas Bello Tangaza sometimes between 2020 and 2021 at Sokoto within the Judicial Division of the High Court of Justice of Sokoto State while being entrusted with 7 units of Daylong Motorcycles for hire purchase on an agreed total sum of N2,480,000.00 by one Muazu Yusuf, only remitted the sum of N989,000.00and dishonestly misappropriated the motorcycles which outstanding balance is N1,491,000.00 in violation of the mode in which the trust is to be discharged and thereby committed the offence of criminal breach of trust contrary to Section 300 of the Sokoto State Penal Code Law 2019 and punishable under Section 301 of the same law".
He pleaded guilty to the one-count charge when it was read to him.
Based on his plea, Justice Mohammed convicted and sentenced Tangaza to one year imprisonment. He also ordered him to pay restitution in the sum of N1,491,000.00 ( One Million, Four Hundred and Ninety-One Thousand Naira) to the victim through the EFCC.
Tangaza’s journey to the Correctional Centre began when he collected seven motorcycles from a petitioner at the cost of N2,480,000.00 ( Two Million, Four Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira) out of which he paid N989,000.00 ( Nine Hundred and Eighty Nine Thousand Naira) leaving a balance of N1,491,000.00. All efforts to get him pay up the balance proved abortive
