Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, has called on youths across the country to put the internet to more productive uses rather than employing it to commit crimes.
He stated this on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Orientation Camp, Issele Uku, Delta State. According to him, the ample prospects of the internet should be explored by youths to achieve more beneficial results for society.
"The internet does not necessarily have to be an avenue to impersonate, manipulate or fabricate lies to defraud others. Let the youths begin to use the internet for socially desirable things like offering solutions to the needs of industries, homes, government and other engagement of life”, he said.
The Chairman who spoke through Head, Public Affairs Department, Benin Zonal Command, Williams Oseghale, further charged the youths to be innovative and resourceful in proffering solutions and ideas that will bring about national development and check corrupt practices.
Across the various Orientation Camps around the country, Bawa spoke passionately about the need for youths to be change agents and role models in their various engagements. At the NYSC Orientation Camp in Umuna, Bende Local Government Area, Abia State, he charged corps members to stand up against cybercrime and other social vices that affect the country by embracing hard work and shun economic and financial crimes. Speaking through Chief Superintendent of the EFCC, CSE, Prince Bassey Effiong, Bawa stressed that “there is no shortcut to wealth and fame. The fact that the rate of unemployment is high should not be an excuse to resort to crime. An act of criminality might deliver premature wealth but this would eventually lead to misery”.
At the Orientation camp in Awgu , Enugu State, Deputy Superintendent of the EFCC, DSE Bethel Ude, who represented the EFCC’s boss, urged corps members to embrace the whistle blowing policy of the government as an important check against economic and financial crimes. “The message of the EFCC to you is that you should become whistleblowers in any place where you find yourself”, he said. The same message on whistle blowing was reiterated at the Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State. Babatunde Ayotunde, Head, Public Affairs Department of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC, who spoke for the Chairman charged corps members to embrace the policy, stressing that, “every good Nigerian must be a whistle- blower. “I charge you to always expose compromises and corrupt tendencies in your immediate environments. When you see something, you must say something and the EFCC will surely do something”
At the Orientation Camp in Jakatai, Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State, Bawa called on corps members to embrace hard work, cultivate useful values, and seek good mentoring opportunities to follow a profitable path in life. Speaking though Adeniran Adebayo, Head, Public Affairs Department of the Makurdi Zonal Command of the EFCC, the EFCC boss challenged the youths to seek and follow mentors within and outside Nigeria for the overall good of our nation
