Court Jails Fraudster Five years for N11m Fraud in Gombe

The Gombe Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has secured the conviction of Yushau Auwal, who bagged five years imprisonment for cheating, to the tune of N11,437,500 (Eleven Million, Four Hundred and Thirty Seven Thousand, Five Hundred Naira).

Auwal was convicted by Justice Abdulsalam Abubakar of the Gombe State High Court sitting in Gombe, Gombe State on July 14, 2022 after pleading guilty to one count amended charge bordering on cheating.

The charge reads; “That you, Yushau Auwal sometime in January, 2021 obtained 565 bags of fertilizer at the cost of N15,500 (Fifteen Thousand, Five Hundred Naira) per bag and 40 units of water pump machine at N67,000 (Sixty Seven Thousand Naira) per unit, all totalling the aggregate sum of N11,437,500 (Eleven Million, Four Hundred and Thirty-seven Thousand, Five Hundred Naira) property of Alhaji Usman Ali by falsely representing to him that the property was supplied at Micro Finance Bank, Gombe, Gombe State but sold same and converted the money to your personal use and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 320 of Penal Code Law and punishable under Section 322 of the same Law”

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, S. E. Okemini, prayed the court to convict him as charged.

Justice Abubakar convicted and sentenced Auwal to five years imprisonment with an option of fine of N50, 000(Fifty Thousand Naira) . He further ordered him to pay the victim the sum of N11, 437,500 as restitution through the EFCC.
