EFCC Partners UBEC to Fight Corruption

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes, Ibrahim Lamorde, has commended the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for accepting to partner with the Commission in the fight against corruption. “It will further serve as an avenue to deepen existing relations between the two agencies,” he said.

Lamorde who was represented by Osita Nwajah, deputy director, Public Affairs stated this at an Anti-Corruption Sensitization Programme organized for the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) on March 13, 2014. “It is far cheaper to prevent crime than to fight it, EFCC cannot work alone in this fight. It is our hope that the fight will not only be at the head office but will move to states”, he said.
The EFCC chairman thanked UBEC for the publication of “Monkey Leaders,” an anti corruption/work book and exercise book for primary and secondary schools, which will help to further enlighten children on the ills of corruption.
Aisha Larai Musa, Head, Enlightenment and Re-orientation Unit of the Commission, informed staff of UBEC that EFCC was created as the lead agency to fight corruption in Nigeria. She observed that “it is difficult to change the mind of adults pertaining crimes but easy to inculcate good values into a child and so encouraged staff who are also parents to train their children uprightly”.
Felicia Bot Timothy, a staff in the Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, who presented a paper on EFCC and Work Place Ethics, encouraged UBEC staff to be conscientious in the discharge of their duties. “The aim is to encourage officers to create an attitudinal change towards building integrity and good work place ethics by promoting discipline, greater commitment to work, accountability and transparency at work,” she said.
The Executive Secretary, UBEC, Suleiman Dikko, who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary Technical, Mrs Sharon Oriero Oviemuno assured EFCC that UBEC as presently constituted will continue to be corrupt-free by strictly observing the ethics of Public Service. She also assured the EFCC that UBEC had already imbibed the culture of anti corruption and will continue uphold what is right for the good of the Nigeria society.
