Makurdi Zonal Head Extols Role of Media in Anti-corruption Fight

Head of operations, Makurdi Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Daniel Isei has described journalists as stakeholders and the Commission’s partners in progress in the fight against corruption.

Isei stated this on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 while receiving executive members of the Benue State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, who paid a courtesy visit to the Commission’s Office in Makurdi, Benue State capital.

"You are stakeholders in the fight against corruption. The media is a viable tool for advancing developmental policies. As a Commission, we cannot deny the fact that we need the press, we need the media. The media is very critical and we see you as partners in progress".

While charging journalists to do more in exposing corrupt elements in the society, he noted that the fight against corruption is everyone’s responsibility, and charged journalists to always verify their facts before sending out news to the public.

"Always cross-check your facts and get back to the right authorities to give you their own side of the story. This will give you enough room to balance your report. Our doors are open and we see you as our partner in progress at all times," Isei said.

The Chairman of NUJ Benue State Chapter, Tor Vande-Acka who led the team commended the EFCC for its efforts in ridding the country of corruption and pledged the union’s support to the Commission.

"When there is a good working relationship with the media, there will be a development. We came to introduce ourselves for you to know the leadership of NUJ in Benue. We believe that this relationship would grow more," Vande-Acka said.
