Magu Cautions Students against Taking Shortcut to Success

The Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has cautioned students in secondary schools across Nigeria not to be deceived into believing that there is any shortcut to being successful in life.

Magu gave the admonition on Thursday, February 27, 2020 through the South East Zonal Head of the Commission, Ibrahim Bappa who was represented by his assistant, Oshodi Johnson while recieving a delegation of students from Gateway International School, Enugu who paid him a courtesy call.

“Do not be carried away with the luxury of life you see on television or being exhibited  by some fraudsters. Some of these things are not exactly what they seem to be. You must reflect on the sacrifices some of your parents are making to send you to school and judge whether life is that easy or not.

“The choice is yours. Either you join the Yahoo Yahoo boys and girls, enjoy life for a moment and end up in jail or you decide to study hard, be truthful and hard working and end up becoming a success,” Magu said.

The EFCC boss who gave the students hints on how to detect and avoid being scammed, stressed the need for them to desist from keeping bad company noting that most of those who engage in crimes learnt such from their friends.

Speaking, Head of Public Affairs in the zone,Chris Oluka while charging the students to partner with EFCC in the fight against graft, disclosed that corruption was the single most important reason Nigeria has had negative economic and social growth.

“Corruption has robbed us of our integrity and image as a nation, it has made us the poverty  capital of the world and in fact, one of the most terrorized country as well,” Oluka said.

He urged the students to shun all forms of indiscipline such as indecent dressings, lateness, cultism, exam malpractice etc, which he stressed are part of corruption besetting the country.

Earlier, the Supervisor of the school and leader of the delegation, Mrs. Nkeiruka Okeke pointed out that the students were on excursion to EFCC to get acquainted with its mandates and mode of operations as well as to be tutored on how best to avoid being victims or perpetrators of financial crimes.

“We are here to see how things are done regarding your work. You know, it said that we should teach children the way of God so that when they grow they will not depart from it. That is why we are here to teach them anti-corruption early; to catch them young positively,” She stated.

The students numbering over fifty alongside the dean of studies,Elobuike Ferdinand and school disciplinarian, Mrs. Ugbo Chika,  were taken round to various sections of the zonal office where they were addressed by sectional heads.
