CSO Coalition Pledges Support for EFCC’s 10 Million Man- March in Enugu

A coalition of over thirty (30) Civil Society Organisations (CSO) and their media partners in the South East known as the South East Anti-Corruption Situation Room has pledged its total support to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on its proposed 10 Million Man Anti-Corruption Walk which comes up on February 14, 2020 in Enugu and across all the states in the country.

The promise was made by the Chair and Coordinator of the Coalition, Emmanuel Acha who led a six-man delegation to see the south East Zonal Head of the Commission, Ibrahim Bappa in his office at Independence Layout, Enugu.

“We are here to complement the efforts of the Commission, to add our support and voice to the fight against economic and financial crimes and corruption, given that you are at the forefront of this fight,” he said.

“CSOs in the zone have robust relationship with the EFCC, where we had supported it through our presence in most of its sensitization activities, so we feel it is proper to know you personally, pledge our support to your efforts especially considering that this fight needs a multi-stakeholder approach to succeed and to assure you that we are poised to seeing the success of the 10 Million-Man-Walk Against Corruption on Valentine’s day,” Acha pledged.

Bappa thanked the delegation for taking time off their various busy schedule to visit the Commission saying it is an indication of the level of seriousness they attach to the fight against corruption.

“I want to assure you, on behalf of the Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu of our 100% support so that together we will succeed in this fight bearing in mind that it is a collective fight. We need to seriously enlighten the public on the dangers of corruption in the towns, village, churches, mosques, wherever people are gathered.

Bappa further noted that the Anti-corruption Walk on 14th February which falls on Valentine ’s Day was not only crucial but deliberate in re-directing the attention of the young ones on what true love should be. “the EFCC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has decided to use what the youths consider as a special day, to let them redirect their minds to other serious responsibilities that may affect their future such as corruption and its debilitating effects on Nigerians, and love for one’s country.”
