EFCC, NYSC Sensitize Marketers Against Corruption in Ondo

The Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in collaboration with members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Ondo East Anti-Corruption CD group on Saturday, February 1, 2020 took enlightenment and sensitization campaign on the ills of corruption to Iyalade Market in Ondo City, Ondo State.



The corps members using a megaphone engaged the market women and men in Pidgin English, Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa languages, educating them on the ills of corruption and its consequences on the larger society.

They urged the traders to shun corruption using messages such as: "to give bribe or to receive bribe, no be good thing o", "Don't give bribe, don't take bribe", "Anybody who sey make you bring N10,000, sey in go give you N100,000 after one week, na lie, make you no go there", "Tell your children, your brothers and sisters, say yahoo yahoo, no bi work", If you do yahoo yahoo, EFCC go catch you and you go, go prison".

Williams Oseghale, Head, Public Affairs Department, Benin Zonal Office who represented the Commission,  said the essence of the campaign was to charge the general public to take ownership of the fight against corruption.

"We need everyone to join hands with the Commission in the fight against corruption," he said.

James Thomas, President, Ondo East NYSC/EFCC CDS group said he was delighted to participate in the sensitization campaign as it gave him the platform to contribute his quota to the fight against corruption.

"Some people don't even know that what they do is against the law. So campaign like this serves as education to the people," he said.

Stella Adeyeye, a trader in the market commended the Commission and NYSC members for the sensitization.

"Last time some people come here, say make we bring money, sey we go get loan, today, we never see anything. If sey we don hear this message, I for no put my money,"  she said.
