EFCC Arraigned Man For Diverting Company Payments into Personal Account

The Uyo Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, on Thursday December 5, 2019, arraigned one Patrick Bassey before Justice Okon Okon of the Akwa Ibom State High Court, Uyo on a four count charge bordering on forgery, illegal conversion and obtaining by false pretence.


Bassey who claimed to be an agent representing Milestone Health Limited/UNIQMED.COM  allegedly altered the payment details originally captured on an invoice/payment instruction in favour of Milestone Limited/UNIQMED.COM, to his personal GTBank account number 0129011524, and received N1,810,100.00 (One Million Eight Hundred and Ten Thousand One Hundred Naira) which he converted to personal use.

The defendant pleaded guilty 'not guilty' to the charge.

The court in its discretion granted the defendant bail in the sum of Two Million Naira with one surety in like sum. The surety must have property within the Jurisdiction of the court which must be verified by the prosecution.

The petitioner Dr. Solomon Udo had alleged that on March 15, 2018, the accused was sent to Lagos to buy some medical equipments worth N830, 000.00 (Eight Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira. The said amount was paid into his GTBank account No.0129011524 to enable him pay for the equipment which he converted for his personal use without the consent of the petitioner. The petitioner further said the defendant made a false presentation to Mercy Hospital, Abak and obtained the sum of N707, 100.00 meant for UNIQMED.COM by altering a UNIQMED.COM Cash Sales Invoice dated July 11, 2017.

Justice Okon adjourned the matter to December 18, 2019 for trial while the defendant was ordered to be remanded at the Commission's detention facility in Uyo, until he fulfills the terms of the bail granted him by the court.
