Justice L Akanbi of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt has convicted and sentenced one Babatunde Bolaji Muritala (aka Adetunde Michael John) to 7 years imprisonment without an option of fine for offences bordering on obtaining money under false pretence.
The convict who was arraigned on a 4-count charge by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, was however convicted omn three of the counts and sentenced to 7 years imprisonment on each of the count. The sentence is however to run concurrently.
Babatunde was arrested sometime in July 2011 following a report by Oceanic Bank Plc (now Eco Bank Plc) alerting the EFCC to a pattern of suspicious transactions in the account of one Adetunde Michael John of No. 17 Pipeline Road, Rumuhaulo, Rumukoro, Port Harcourt.
Investigation by the Commission later reveal that the convict used the fake name (Adetunde Michael John) to defraud unsuspecting victims of several millions of naira through his account with the bank.
Muritala, 33, is a graduate of Economics from the University Port Harcourt.
