EFCC Values Partnerships against Corruption- Magu

The Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has promised to engage critical stakeholders in the society, in order to reduce economic and financial crimes in Nigeria as part of efforts to make the country free of corruption.

He gave the charge on Thursday, June 27, 2019 through Isyaku Sharu, EFCC Ilorin Zonal Head, while receiving the management of OFM92.5 who came on a visit.

“We are very much interested in engaging media practitioners, because we believe it is a priority to winning the fight against corruption,” he said.

The visit, he said, was a welcome development, because the EFCC believes in engaging key stakeholders in the society, including the Media, as part of the anti-graft agency’s corruption prevention strategies.

He further expressed concerns about the increasing cases of internet fraud in the society, and stressed the need to mobilize the citizenry in order to combat the unfortunate trend. He noted that majority of them are young and mostly students.

According to him, such partnership with stakeholders was essential to rid the country of internet fraud, and help the young ones channel their energies in positive ventures.

“Our Public Affairs Department partners with key stakeholders, in order to educate the public against the dangers of economic and financial crimes, so that the society will be better for all of us,” he said.

Further emphasizing the need for collaboration with Radio Stations like OFM92.5, he observed that “majority of the victims of internet fraud are foreigners, and this prevents foreign investors from coming to Nigeria”.

He noted that beyond the convictions of fraudsters, there was a need to woo foreign investors in order to boost the country’s economy.

“I believe that with the collaboration of Radio Stations like yours, we can make Nigerians proud again,” he added.

Earlier, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of OFM92.5, Kunle Osisanya-Afolabi, commended the EFCC Chair for establishing a Zonal Office of the Commission in Ilorin.

“The Kwara People are very happy with this development,” he said, and expressed the resolve of the Station to collaborate with the EFCC, because “we are willing to work with you”.
