The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, stated that eradicating corruption and the twin evil of economic and financial crimes will engender growth and development in the country.
Magu stated this when he delivered a goodwill message at the National Orientation Agency, NOA, sensitization programme on communicating government policies, programme and activities in Benin City, Edo State. Magu said that for too long corruption has remained the bane of the country's underdevelopment.
"It is for this reason that the President continue to say “let us kill corruption before corruption kills Nigerians. The effect of corruption in our society is there for all to see", he said.
The Acting Chairman who was represented by Williams Oseghale, Head, Public Affairs Department, Benin Zonal Office, urged stakeholders to join the fight against corruption by promoting and upholding the right values of discipline, integrity and transparency. "We need to know that corruption constitutes a clog in the wheel of progress and development. So let us come together and take ownership of the fight against corruption", he said.
In her speech, the Acting State Director of NOA, Grace Ewere Eseka, said the sensitization programme became important because government has deployed several policies and programme which hold immense benefit for Nigerians.
"It is pertinent and vital that the citizens of this great nation are kept well informed about these policies and programme in order to leverage on the benefit provided by them. This is borne out of the fact that information is power and unless the people are well informed on national issues, they are not likely to willingly contribute their quota to national development ", she submitted.
