A former teller with a new generation bank, Esther Alagba was on Monday, April 22, 2013 sentenced to Fifteen months imprisonment by a Sokoto State High Court presided over by Justice Danlami Bawa Sambo for the theft of N1, 753,000, property of her former employers.
Esther, 34, who was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) sometime in November 2011, was convicted on each of the 5-count charge of criminal breach of trust preferred against her and sentenced to three months imprisonment on each count.
The convict who was a bulk teller at the 10, Kano Road, Sokoto branch of the bank, was arrested after her employers discovered that a sum of N1,753,000 (One Million Seven Hundred and Fifty Three Thousand Naira) in her trust had disappeared.
She allegedly took the money and gave to her husband to use n prospecting for a contract in Abuja.
She initially fled the bank when her employers started making enquiries about a missing N1million. It was in the cause of that investigation that the bank officials also discovered that another N753, 000 in the convict's trust was missing.
