The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Wednesday 20th March, 2013 organized a lecture on fire prevention and management for its members of staff. According to Natasha Umar, Head Facility, the essence of the lecture is to sensitize staff on the danger of fire outbreaks both in the work place and at home.
Tesleem Agunloye, Assistant Controller of Fire, Policy Regulatory and Inspectorate Department of Federal Fire Service, who delivered the lecture, posited that fire incidents may result from carelessness, accident and wilful acts. He however noted that the possibility of fire outbreak could be minimized through the maintenance of good house-keep, not overloading the electric circuit, keeping escape routes free and observing all necessary rules. "Do not smoke where there is no smoking sign. Keep off, where there is a keep off sign and do not overload electric circuit and keep the escape routes free," he declared. He said fire fighting requires courage and boldness as some persons get confused or become afraid once there is fire outbreak.
Members of staff were later taken through a practical demonstration session of how to put out fire in the event of an outbreak. Anchored by Fire Superintendent, Oduye Sunday, staff were taught how to put out fire using fire blanket and fire extinguisher. He advised that one should be confident and composed before applying both measures.
