As part of its sensitization efforts to enlighten the public against vote buying and inducements, the Kaduna Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, held a rally at the Murtala square Kaduna on January 17, 2019.
The rally which began with a road walk from the venue of the event enroute Ali Akilu Road as early as 8.30am, was organised by the EFCC in collaboration with Grassroots Corruption Fighters, Independent Electoral commission, INEC and the National Orientation Agency, NOA.
Several messages displayed at the rally include "My Vote is Not for Sale", "Kuri ata yan ci na", “Kuri ata ba sayarwa ba ce”, “Don’t Sell Your Vote”, among others.
According to Ibrahim Magu, the acting EFCC Chairman, the issue of vote-buying had become a serious issue, especially as it relates to money laundering activities.
Speaking through Osita Nwajah, Director, EFCC’s Public Affairs, Magu, urged the electorates not to sell their votes, stressing that “your vote is your right, and your Permanent Voters Card, PVC, is your future”.
In his address, the Director General, National Orientaion Agency, NOA, Dr. Garba Abari, who was represented by Rhoda Rajah, encouraged the electorate not to be induced by politicians and not to sell thier votes.
“Selling your vote has negative consequences, which includes poor service delivery and mortgaging the future of our children”, he said.
In his remark, the national coordinator, Grassroots Corruption Fighters, Mubarak Umar cautioned the electorate not to be induced by selfish politicians.
