NIGER DELTA YOUTHS SCORE EFCC HIGH ON EXCELLENCE

A group representing Niger Delta youths has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, saying that it has performed ‘’excellently in the discharge of its duties’’.

The group, Niger Delta Youth for Practical Development, NDYPD, gave the commendation on Thursday,  27 September, 2018 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State while presenting an Award of Excellence  to the Commission.

According to the Chairman of the group,  Amb. Prince Jeminimiena, who presented the Award on behalf of NDYPD, ‘’the EFCC has helped in bringing corruption to the barest minimum and shown that excellence is possible in public service.’’

Jeminimiena stressed that the presentation of the award was in recognition of the efforts of the Commission and to encourage it to do more.  “It is our hope that the NDYPD and the EFCC must find lasting answers to the problem of corruption in the Niger Delta.  We are for collaboration and partnership to assist your Commission with relevant information that will enhance the fight against corruption at the grassroots level of the state’’, he said.

He also said that the NDYPD as a body was established to checkmate misappropriation of public funds.   “We are ready and prepared to work with you.  We discovered that allocations given to elected  Local Government Chairmen of the state for development were being diverted to personal use, therefore, keeping the region underdeveloped’’, he said.

Responding, Head of Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the EFCC, Mr. Nnaghe Obono Itam said that the EFCC  was willing to work  with the Niger Delta Youth to ensure that corruption in the region is minimized.   “You have a willing partner who is ready to collaborate and it will be beneficial to the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole”, he said.
