The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, March 19, 2018, arraigned the duo of Chester Onyemaechi Ukandu and Achi George before Justice Olusola A. Williams of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja on a three-count charge of conspiracy to forge and forgery.
One of the counts reads: “ That you, Chester Onyemaechi Ukandu and Achi George, sometime in February, 2017 in Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, conspired to forge the letter head of Mainstreet Bank Registrars Limited with RC No. 613674 and committed an offence contrary to Section 409 and 363(1) Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.”
Another count reads: “That you, Chester Onyemaechi Ukandu and Achi George, on or about the 6th day of March, 2017 in Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, knowingly forged the letter head of Mainstreet Bank Registrars Limited with RC No. 663674 purporting that the said letter head emanated from Mainstreet Bank Registrars Limited and committed an offence contrary to Section 361(1) (a) and 363(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.”
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them.
In view of their pleas, the prosecution counsel, Zainab Ettu, prayed the court for a trial date and asked that the defendants be remanded in prison custody.
The defence counsel, S.N. Agweh, however, informed the court that he had filed an application for bail and served same on the prosecution before the proceedings commenced today.
He also prayed for a short date to enable him argue the bail application.
Consequently, Justice Williams adjourned the case to April 10, 2018 for hearing of the bail application and ordered the defendants to be remanded in Ikoyi prison pending further hearing.
