EFCC Arraigns Three Over Telecoms Fraud

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Wednesday, January 30, 2013 arraigned the trio of Sani Gambo, Jamilu Sani Gambo and Idris Mohammed before Justice Fatu Riman of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano on a three count charge bordering on fraud.

One of the charge reads: "that You Sani Gambo Musa, Jamilu Sani Gambo and Idris Mohammed Abubakar trading under the name and style Beamstar Network Limited on or about 20th December, 2011 in Kano within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court of Nigeria Kano Judicial Division illegally provided electronic communication service to subscribers without obtaining their full names and residential/corporate addresses and you thereby committed an offence contrary to section 12 (1) (a) (b) and (c) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and Punishable under section 12 (3) of the same Act".

When the charge was read to the three accused persons, they pleaded not guilty.

The counsel to the first and second accused persons (Sani Gambo and Jamilu Sani Gambo) M. M Mustafa moved an oral application for bail. He pleaded with the judge to exercise his discretion and admit his clients to bail since they are already on administrative bail granted them by the EFCC. But prosecuting counsel, B.M Buhari opposed the application, urging the court to insist on formal bail applications by the defence.
Justice Riman however granted all the accused persons bail in the sum of N50, 000,000 (Fifty Million Naira Only) and one surety each with landed property within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court. And the surety must swear to an affidavit of means.

Further hearing in the matter has been adjourned to February 25, 2013.
