The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 arraigned one Emmanuel Oluwaseun and his company, Walter De-Heroes School, before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, on an amended three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and forgery to the tune of N6.5m( Six Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira).

 

The defendant was alleged to have fraudulently obtained the money from the complainant, Alhaji Ibrahim Mahmud Muqdad, as payment for a plot of land located at 25, Oladunjoye Street, Igando Road, Lagos.

One of the counts reads:  “ That you, Emmanuel Oluwaseun, Abolanle Moshood Feranmi (still at large) and Walter De-Heroes School, between May 8, 2017 and June 8, ‎2017 in Lagos, within the Lagos Judicial Division, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N6,500,000.00 (Six Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira only) from Alhaji Ibrahim Mahmud Muqdad by fasle representation that the said sum of money represented the cost of landed property at No. 25, Oladunjoye Street, Igando Road, Lagos State, which representation you know was false.’’

 

Another count reads: “That you, Emmanuel Oluwaseun, Abolanle Moshood Feranmi (still at large) and Walter De-Heroes Schoo,l on or about the 20th day of March, 2015 in Lagos, within the Lagos judicial Division, knowingly forged the Deed of Assignment between Alhaja Bilikisu Oluwabunmi Abass (assignor) and Abolanle Moshood Feranmi (assignee) and purported the said Deed of Assignment to have emanated from Alhaja Bilikisu Oluwabunmi Abass’’.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel. E.A. Oyedotun- Laleye, asked the court for a trial date and also prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody pending the determination of the charge filed against him.

 

Counsel to the defendant, Frank Eke, urged the court to admit his client to bail on liberal terms.

However, Oyedotun-Laleye opposed the bail applications owing to the weight of the charge against the defendant.

Justice Dada, however, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N250, 000.00 and two sureties in like sum.

 

The sureties must have landed property within the jurisdiction of the court and must provide proof of payment of tax in the last three years.

The defendant was remanded in Ikoyi prison pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

 

Justice Dada adjourned the case to January 24, 2018 for commencement of trial.
