The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC Gombe Zonal office has arraigned one Ahmadu Mijinyawa before Justice A.M Shitu of the Federal High Court Bauchi on five counts of employment scam.
Mijinyawa, a native of Darazo local Government Area of Bauchi State was arrested following a complaint by one Hassan Tanko Kyaure on behalf of one Ibrahim Dahiru Bulkachuwa and 33 others, alleging that sometime ago the suspect approached thm with offer of employment in the Bauchi State Ministry for Local Government for a fee. They allegedly paid money ranging from N120,000 to N150,000, totalingN3.47M to the accused who then offered them temporary appointment letters and staff identification cards.
After several months of work without pay, they went to verify the authenticity of their appointment letters which they discovered were fake..
Count one of the charge read, "That you AHMADU MIJINYAWA sometime in November, 2014 at Bauchi State within the Federal High Court Bauchi Judicial Division with intent to defraud did obtain the sum of Three Million four Hundred and Seventy Thousand Naira (N3, 470, 000.00) from several Darazo Local Government residents including Ibrahim David Bulkachuwa and Shafiu Haruna, by falsely claiming the sums were for processing of employment letters with Darazo Local Government, Bauchi State, facts that you knew to be false and and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (1) (a) and Punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006."
The accuse person pleaded not guilty to the charge. Consequently, the prosecution counsel O. Israel urged the court to fix a date for trial as all his witnesses and documents needed to prove his case were ready.
While adjourning the case to December 5, 2017 Justice Shitu remanded the accused in prison pending the determination of his bail application.
