CJ Calls for Synergy between EFCC, Judiciary

The Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, not to relent in its efforts to sanitize the judiciary of corrupt practices, while calling for synergy between the agency and the judiciary.

Making the charge during a visit by members of staff of the Gombe Zonal office of the EFCC, Umar also commended the anti-graft agency for "a very good job".

"This visit could not have come at a better time when corruption is being battled vigorously by the EFCC, and I must add that you must not relent in your efforts, because you are doing a very good job", she said.

The CJ assured the anti-graft agency of the cooperation of the state's judiciary, and urged the EFCC to ensure that it takes seriously, the training and capacity building of its staff, adding that "the onus and burden is on prosecutors to prove their cases beyond reasonable doubt".

While appreciating the CJ, the Head of Operations in the zone, Aminu Ado Aliyu, noted that the judiciary remains the last institution to give effect to investigations by EFCC operatives.

"This visit has become mandatory considering what we have observed delay tactics applied by lawyers especially at preliminary stage in order to sabotage the outcome of trials," he said.

The Chief Registrar of the Bauchi State High Court, Adamu Mohammed, Abubakar Aliyu of Legal and Prosecution Department of the EFCC were among those that were present at the visit.
