The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has charged Nigerian Youths to shun every form of corruption especially, Advance Fee Fraud popularly known as ‘yahoo-yahoo’ and join hands with the EFCC in its efforts to rid the country of economic and financial crimes.
Magu made the charge on Tuesday March 17,2020 at the National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC) Orientation Camp, Awgu,Enugu State in a speech delivered on his behalf by the Head,Public Affairs of the Commission in the South East,Chris Oluka .
“Young people must not be mere spectators in the anti-corruption campaign, rather, they should actually be the foot soldiers leading the mass rout of the corruption and economic crimes out of out land.” He stated.
He regretted that while hopes were high that the country’s negative corruption index would be tackled by the youths who in time past, were puritanical and idealistic of a great country, some of todays’ youth have even surpassed the older generation in perpetrating corruption at every level.
“This is one development that calls for concerns as the youths are considered pivotal to the nation’s aspirations and growth especially considering Nigeria’s urgent quest to find lasting solutions to the problems of corruption.”
Magu while urging the corps members not to lose hope in reclaiming Nigeria from its varied socio-economic quagmire, said they must for the sake of posterity, deploy their intelligence and energy into creating a better Nigeria especially in the area of exposing crime and criminals
“We urge you, when you see something, say something; and dont just stop there, please do something” .
The NYSC lecture which has not only become a regular feature in the orientation calendar of the Corps, but that of the Commission, was given in all the NYSC camps across the country.
In Ebonyi and Anambra states, the Acting Chairman’s speech was delivered by Abosede Gadzama and Eunice Vou Dalyop respectively.
